Hi, thanks for dropping by!

Welcome to HCA Talk, I’m Margaret Marlatt, BSN, RN, PHN. My career in healthcare has been ongoing for the last 25+ years, not including my entry into healthcare when I was in high school. I joined healthcare because I wanted to help people. The roles I have held ranged in progression from nursing assistant, licensed nurse, registered nurse, nursing manager, and now, I’m an Infection Preventionist at a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC) and working towards my master’s in Healthcare Administration (MHA) at my alma mater, National University. I have worked in home care, as a travel nurse, hospice, long-term care, outpatient/ambulatory care, and acute hospital care.

A little about myself, I spent my childhood following my parents around the world as an Army brat. I attended 16 different schools and had the opportunity of a lifetime to experience  a diverse group of cultures, peoples, and nations. As an adult, I married a United States Marine and continued my travels. These experiences along with the values, principles, and morals of growing up in the military has prepared me for this journey to lead healthcare organizations towards ensuring efficient and quality patient care that is complaint with the laws that govern and guidelines and policies that guide our actions. And all this while maintaining budgets and prevention of loss. This is not an easy job and we need all the help we can get.

This blog site is an opportunity for all of us to share our experiences and knowledge collaboratively with other like-minded healthcare administrators. This site is for those with a wealth of experiences and those who are just starting out in healthcare. Collaboration is the KEY! Come, share, teach, learn, absorb and whether you’re bringing it or leaving it, know that our shared diversity can provide positive influence on each other and help to guide each one of us into solid healthcare administrators within our own communities.

Like the day I entered healthcare, I still want to help people, I have just found another way to do it. So please know, you are welcome and I look forward to hearing and learning from all of you.
